Team Offsite Event. Keble College, The University of Oxford

We enjoyed a couple of days amidst the spires of the beautiful city of Oxford last week. The event was a team offsite for an investment client and was held in historic Keble College.

Delegates attended a series of theatre-style presentations  and breakout sessions. At the end of the second day the close of  the event was marked by a formal dinner in the college’s Great Hall.  First Network provided wireless battery uplighters to the evening event which enhanced the venue’s striking architecture to dramatic effect.

The Venue

Keble is among the largest University of Oxford colleges. Its original brick Victorian buildings have been complemented and supplemented by award winning contemporary developments. In addition to impressive Victorian architecture and beautiful quads, the college boasts a tiered lecture theatre for 250, several meeting rooms and en-suite accommodation for 245. It’s a very attractive venue in the heart of the bustling city which lends itself perfectly to this type of event.

LED Wall London Event

Annual Investment Conference, Rosewood Hotel London

Our 18 metre LED wall took centre stage at IF18 Investment Conference at London’s Rosewood Hotel last week. First Network have delivered this annual event on behalf of a major global investment client for many years running and it’s always a pleasure.

Over 160 delegates were seated in cabaret style for formal presentations followed by more intimate breakout sessions later in the day. Presentations used fullscreen powerpoint and animations broadcast in full HD on the widescreen LED wall. Our team designed and built the bespoke set which featured 3D lettering, back lit with LED strip.

The Rosewood Hotel is one of London’s premier venues. Blending English heritage with contemporary sophistication and offers fantastic conference facilities.

The event ran without a hitch. We were all delighted with the outcome and our client had this to say:

‘Thanks a million for making IF18 such a huge success.  Your team did an amazing job.’

It means so much to us to get feedback like this. Many thanks and a big well done to everyone involved.

Paris Conference LED Wall

Pharmaceutical Conference & Launch Event, Paris

First Network were in Paris last week, delivering a Pharmaceutical Conference  and launch event for a breakthrough Cancer treatment on behalf of a Global Pharma Client.

The 2-day conference welcomed more than 250 delegates from all over Europe to the newly refurbished Regency Hyatt Etoile. The towering Etoile offers spectacular views over Paris and its most beautiful monuments, from the Eiffel Tower to the Arc de Triomphe.

First Network provided a 24m Curved LED Screen flanked by 9m of curved branded walls. This formed the backdrop for the main presentations and allowed full video content to be displayed in glorious high definition.

The LED wall was flanked by two 9 metre branded walls. The overall effect was of a 180 degree surround images and sound and was visually very striking.

A highlight of the event were the two keynote speakers.  Conductor and founder of the World’s first ParaorchestraCharles Hazlewood –  addressed the delegates with an inspiring talk accompanied by a seven-piece string ensemble. This was followed by the personal account of a cancer survivor who has undergone several failed cycles of chemotherapy and is now in remission following the new treatment.

We were very pleased with every aspect of the event and credit must be given to the whole team. Our clients had this to say:

“This was an exceptional launch event for an exceptional milestone in Cancer treatment. Congratulations on a very well thought out, executed and impactful launch meeting from beginning to end.”

“First Network nailed it!”

Catchbox Pro

Our exciting new arrival. Catchbox Pro - the world's first throwable mic!

We’re very excited about our new arrival – The Catchbox Pro Throwable Mic.

Heralded as The World’s First Throwable Mic,  the Catchbox Pro is a spongy cube which can hold either a ULXD Microphone belt pack or K4E mini Microphone belt pack. It can be thrown into the audience at an event allowing delegates to interact with the speaker on stage. It’s a revolutionary piece of kit which is already proving to be a huge asset at our events.

The Catchbox Pro module allows professionals to convert their existing beltpack transmitters into throw-able microphones which means there’s no need to buy new transmitters and receivers or change existing integrated systems.

Here’s what Catchbox have to say:

The Audience Engagement Solution For Larger, More Demanding Events

The Catchbox Pro is a module, converting existing beltpack transmitters, or lavalier microphones, into throw able microphones. This means it is easy to integrate with any event that already has a working wireless microphone setup. Users simply connect their existing beltpack transmitter into the Catchbox Pro’s built in mic and Automute electronics.

  • Compatible with transmitters from Shure Mini and ULXD beltpacks, Sennheiser and AKG, ensuring flawless performance in the most demanding events
  • Catchbox Pro comes with an integrated omni directional mic element that has been optimized for audiences & speech.
  • The Catchbox senses motion of the device and temporarily switches off the audio when the Catchbox is caught, thrown,or dropped
  • The combination of durable foams and technical fabric ensures that dropping and throwing the device won’t damage the electronics or the person catching
  • Catchbox is equipped with a unique magnetic locking mechanism which ensures that the inner capsule doesn’t pop out when the device is thrown

Since landing at First Network earlier this month, our Catchbox Pro units have already been out on several jobs, with great results.

Give us a call if you could use a Catchbox at your next event.

ARC Quiz Raises Vital Funds for Retired Racehorses

Glittering charity fundraiser raises vital funds to re home ex-race horses.

Backed by Arena Racing Company (“ARC”) The Moorcroft Masterminds Quiz made its debut appearance at a new venue this year – London’s prestigious Montcalm Hotel.

The ever-popular black-tie charity fundraiser was attended by over 200 people and attracted many familiar faces from throughout the racing community. The evening’s events included a champagne reception, live entertainment, and a fabulous sit-down dinner. As always, the highlight was the quiz itself. Teams made up of organisations from across the racing world tackled varied topics in their bid to win the coveted and prestigious 2018 ARC Moorcroft Masterminds title and trophy.

The evening was hosted by TV Presenters Nick Luck and Gina Harding and culminated in the auction of some unique and special prizes.

Since 2011, the charity fundraiser evening has made over £200,000 for the Moorcroft Racehorse Welfare Centre, a charity established in order to find permanent homes for retired racehorses.

Chief Executive of Arena Racing Company, Martin Cruddace, said: “Caring for and rehoming ex-racehorses is very important to the sport and ARC is thrilled to show its support for the Moorcroft Racehorse Welfare Centre”

The evening raised over £20,000. First Network were very proud to be involved.

First Network provide technical support for the 2018 Boat Race

On Saturday First Network provided AV and presentation services for the Oxford v. Cambridge Boat Race

2018 marked the 164th annual event and it was the fourth time that First Network have been involved.

Our teams were stationed at boat clubs in Putney and Mortlake – the start and finish of the race –  where they provided lighting, backdrop, staging and a 6 speaker audio system with digital mixer and radio mics. A 3.5m x 2m LED display relayed images from boat race to the venue and the sponsors logos were featured on bespoke branded entrance carpet, stair risers, registration desks and welcome pod.

Former BBC Broadcaster Bill Turnbull compared the event.

The races were as gripping as ever: Cambridge University enjoyed a clean sweep with both the men and women’s teams storming to victory against their Oxford rivals. The light blue women’s crew raced into an early lead and extended that advantage throughout the course, adding another win to last year’s 11-length triumph.

In the second race the Cambridge men’s crew crossed the line nearly four lengths clear.

Putney-raised cox Sophie Shapter described guiding Cambridge to victory in the women’s Boat Race as “a dream come true”.

The weather was a little damp but spirits were high and we thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Ryan Young

Burns Night Supper at Merchant Taylors Hall

Burns Night Supper is an institution of Scottish life; a night to celebrate the national Bard, Sir Robert Burns. First Network were at the fabulous Merchant Taylor’s Hall on Thursday, delivering this annual event for a global law firm client.

As befitting a company with Scottish roots, Burns Night has become one of the main events of our client’s annual calendar. It’s an opportunity to bring together more than 200 colleagues and clients for a celebration of Scottish culture and heritage. Steeped in history and boasting a stunning oak-paneled ball room, Merchant Taylors Hall lent appropriate opulence and gravitas to the occasion.

The itinerary followed time-honoured tradition: A piper played guests into dinner and the evening featured The Selkirk Grace and The Toast to the Haggis. Speeches celebrated of the life of Robert Burns and guests enjoyed a hearty meal of ‘Haggis, Neeps and Tatties’.

Entertainment included a performance by fiddler Ryan Young. With multiple nominations for both BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio 2 awards, Ryan has been making his presence felt on the Scottish traditional music scene and continues to impress audiences all over the UK. An imaginative use of traditional melodies and a playing style that references a wide range of influences earned Ryan a Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Award and title of  ‘Up and Coming Artist of the Year’ in the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards last year.

Another highlight was a display of traditional Scottish dancing from The London School of Highland Dance.

The evening was a huge success and we were delighted with the smooth running of the event.

ur next event.

Financial Forum at Historic Old Billingsgate Market

Last week was a busy one for First Network with several large events happening concurrently. The largest of these was a financial forum for over 1000 delegates, held at the historic Old Billingsgate Market. In the heart of the City on the North bank of the River Thames, Old Billingsgate encompasses three versatile spaces and a beautiful terrace with unrivaled views of Tower Bridge, City Hall, The Shard and London Bridge.

This Victorian Grade II listed building has been transformed from a world famous fish market into one of London’s premier event spaces. It now hosts some of London’s most prestigious events, from international product launches to exquisite award ceremonies.

This week was no exception. One of our global investment company clients held a town hall style financial forum for over 1000 employees in the venue’s Grand Hall.

First Network managed full AV production which included six 20k projectors projecting directly onto a custom-built stage set, sound system and a 4 camera system for relay and web cast to the client’s global offices. The event closed with cocktails and cupcakes to celebrate the company’s 30th anniversary.

The event was a huge success and we were delighted with the result.
